Editor (your name)_______________________________

PERIOD______

You are now the editor. Your sample has been logged in for your homework grade. You will be reviewing and editing the writing of someone else in one of the periods of computer class.

Here are your tasks for today. We may not get them all finished today.

1.   Review the writing sample. If the item requested is present (you can see it), write the indicated number of points in the “?” column. (on back)

2.   Complete all of the comments sections. (on back)

3.   You are to revise, edit and eliminate any extra words that don’t help introduce the author to the public.

a.   THIRD PERSON - If they have used “I” statements, revise the sections to reflect third person (as if you were now introducing the person or writing the About the Author section yourself).

b.   EDIT– if you think you have different way to say the same thing, try it out. Rewrite, look for any spelling or grammar mistakes. Please , do not MARK on the original paper.

c.    ELIMINATE – Take out any phrases, or words that don’t help introduce the author. Be sure not to change the intention or the feeling of the introduction or change facts. For instance, “Now I am going to tell you about…”, “Next, I am going to say”. Any of these types of phrases need to be eliminated and you will have to re-write the statement.

d. ANSWERING RATHER THAN WRITING – If the person simply answered the questions (as if filling in a worksheet), you will need to get out your creative hat to work on turning the interview notes into an introduction.
